Shelbi Walser, 12, was on her way to Florida with her mom for medical treatment. Shelbi has a genetic bone disorder and makes the trip to Tampa from her hometown of Dallas on a regular basis; she’s never had an issue, until recently.
TSA agents stopped Shelbi on her last trip, saying they couldn’t tell her mom why she’d been taken to the side for further screening. Agents refused to let the 12-year-old’s mother to come near her, and she became increasingly scared, beginning to cry.
After nearly an hour of waiting, they told Shelbi and her mother that she had tested positive for ‘explosive residue’ on her hands, and they needed even further screening.
